Marwa Arsanios, a US artist, filmmaker, and researcher debuting at Curtas Vila do Conde, presents this work that is part of a research project along with two other films, correlated by their theme, but autonomous in presentation format – either in exhibit galleries, or movie theaters. In this part of the triptych, Arsanios continues to explore the intersections between ecology and feminism, stressing the importance of land rights as an essential condition in the struggle for the progress and emancipation of women’s rights. In Tolima, Colombia, Arsanios documents the activist groups that claim self-determination for indigenous communities as opposed to State control of their lands, as well as protection for local seeds, and the preservation of ancestral agricultural practices in the face of imposition by transnational corporations, either focused on the industrial profitability of soils, or on the extraction of their natural elements.
