In a very frontal manner, “Scars” presents the point of view of a person suffering from depression, who resorts to self-mutilation as a way to escape their inner pain. The documentary’s protagonist is Alex Anna, the film’s director herself, who explains what she felt like when she self-mutilated. In a confessional and reflective tone, the filmmaker also reveals her feelings regarding how others reacted once they found out what had happened to her in the past, and disagrees that the best thing to do is to just ignore it.
