It is New Year’s Eve and Sofia is not having a good day. But the day is long, and there is still time to make up for it: time to walk the dog at the park, to go to church, to be with her boyfriend and her friends and, mostly, to celebrate new year’s with her family, watching the fireworks. After a more realistic register in her first two films, Jacqueline Lentzou returns to the more subjective and dreamlike universe of her previous movie, “Hiwa”, continuing here to explore a sensory language, which turns trivial everyday moments into extraordinary situations just by how the camera frames the action, dwelling on certain visual details, delicate light and sound moments, thus getting closer to Sofia, her worries and hopes. This way, the mere description of a dream can take center stage in the story and infect the rest of the movie. (JA)
