Despite appearances, this is not just a documentary about a soccer team, but rather about the city of Belo Horizonte during the 20th century, with all its complex family, racial and territorial dynamics. “Strive, Strive, Strive” is a love letter, openly enamored, from two fans to their lifelong beloved team. Without leaving any room for opposing discourses, they seek to give voice to various speeches that have been censored and silenced over the decades. The film by Sérgio Borges and Helvécio Marins Jr. proposes a narrative form that essentially points to practices of football spectoriality. Without images, it is up to us to imagine the movements and trajectories of bodies in search of the opponent's goal. This narrative strategy also materializes a desire for fiction, for the rewriting of history according to vivid subjective memories. (PC)
