Shot on Super 8 film, a media traditionally saved for intimate footage, “Depth Wish” encompasses some of the deepest and most unspeakable desires of M., the female protagonist of this sensorial journey through various spatialities and temporalities. The overlapping of multiple images suggests this amalgamation of experiences, between the lived and the remembered, which merge outside any time. The sea reminds us of a relentless coming and going that shapes the materiality of both body and landscape, in a random and unpredictable way. It is precisely from the sea that a mysterious glow emerges with a hypnotic sound that seduces M. and challenges her to try an immersive state that, in a sensory way, alters her perception in relation to other sensibilities – visual, sound, and tactile – and to herself. This is the debut of young Portuguese artist Margarida Albino at Curtas. (PC)
