Morvern is 21 years old, works in a supermarket and lives mundanely in a small coastal town in the Scottish Highlands. On Christmas morning, her boyfriend commits suicide, but leaves her a finished book and a request to send it to various publishers. Morvern appropriates his book and, with the money he had left for the funeral, decides to head to Ibiza with her best friend. In this second feature film, Lynne Ramsay focuses on the feeling of invisibility before others in a single character, following closely the young Morvern – in a remarkable performance by Samantha Morton. Suddenly she finds herself adrift, not knowing how to go forward, looking at the world around her like a ghost who has no place to call home, looking for a way to come back to life, to start a meaningful connection with someone.
