Continuing Pedro Maia’s work in exploring the materiality of film and its manipulation, “Disuelta” is a well accomplished visual interpretation of the eponymous song from Lucrecia Dalt’s latest album. Maia takes advantage of the expressiveness of various analog processes – overprints, solarizations, image repetitions – in a kind of choreography in which he mixes a series of abstract elements, and others resulting from the wear and tear of film, with details of the artist’s hands and face. Pedro Maia has presented the wide range of his work at Curtas Vila do Conde, with a regular presence at both the Experimental and Music Video Competitions, but also with many collaborations in music concerts by artists such as Pedro Furtado (a.k.a. The Legendary Tiger Man), Sensible Soccers or Montanhas Azuis. Curtas also held the première for his feature “How to Become Nothing”, part of a multidisciplinary collaborative project with Paulo Furtado and Rita Lino. (MD)
