Curtas Pro 2023

Curtas Pro is the 31st Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Festival's programme for film industry professionals. Three rigorous days of activities, networking, cooperation, and project creation. Curtas Pro also provides an opportunity to network with other industry experts, share expertises, and seek potential partners.

The event provides an atmosphere suitable to project presentations, pitching sessions, and informal contacts with a view to internationalization, with the goal of boosting co-production and establishing collaborations between Portuguese and international producers. Curtas Pro also provides an overview of financing options accessible through the Creative Europe programme.

Industry Accreditation

The Industry Accreditation is aimed at professionals of the film and audiovisual industry seeking access to exclusive events of Curtas Pro (11 to 13 July 2023) . Industry Accreditation gives access to:

- All sessions of the festival programme;

- Talks and Masterclasses;

- Industry Screenings (by invitation only)

- Exclusive networking meetings;

- Animated Film Coproduction Meetings;

- Parties and Happy-Hours.

Some activities are subject to limited capacity. The issuing of Industry Accreditation is subject to the criteria and approval of Curtas Vila do Conde. The sending of the completed form does not guarantee the issuing of the accreditation. Those interested should duly fill in the registration form through the Filmchief platform on the following dates:

- 40€ - until 30 April 2023;

- 50 - 1 May to 30 June 2023.

Animation Cinema Coproduction Meetings

Aware of the enormously successful phase that Portuguese animation cinema is going through and the appearance of internationally recognized talents in this area - as are the cases of world-wide phenomena, Laura Gonçalves, author of “The Garbage Man” and João Gonzalez, author of “Ice Merchants”, which was the first nomination ever of a Portuguese film for the Oscars - this will be the central theme for Curtas Pro 2023.

The aim is to encourage new professional interactions between European producers and distributors of animation cinema, in order to create possibilities for co-productions in projects still in the early stages of development (short and feature films), through meetings and networking moments for project presentations.

Industry Screenings

The Industry Screenings are private screenings for cinema industry agents of new Portuguese-produced short films seeking a world or international premiere. It is an event for all festival programmers and artistic directors, as well as sales agents, distributors, and other film professionals. The programme was created in collaboration with the Agência – Portuguese Short Film Agency.

Short film projects in the early stages of development with Portuguese production, covering fiction, animation, documentary, and experimental genres. This pitching and networking event aims to promote partnerships between Portuguese and international production companies around short film projects. Aside from the pitching sessions, it is also a unique opportunity for producers and participants to make informal meetings.

Meet the Festivals

An opportunity for directors, producers, distributors, film schools, to meet personally with several programmers from the most important international festivals in the world where there are short film competitions (Cannes, Venice, Locarno, Clermont-Ferrand, Berlin, Rotterdam, etc. ) with the purpose of deepening knowledge of the specificities of each event, for a better promotion of its films on the international circuit.

Meeting the Directors

The films come to life outside the cinema, in the vibrant atmosphere of Curtas Vila do Conde. The day after their premieres, the festival promotes meetings with the directors of Director's Factory - North Portugal and of the International Competition, which is a unique opportunity for the audience and professionals to know the motivations and the world of short films.

These encounters allow you to meet the directors and discover different aspects of their work, through a conversation in which they share their inspirations, problems, and aesthetic decisions, and in which the audience can also participate and ask questions to discover the creative process of each film.
