The Experimental Competition is a particularly renowned space in the programming of Curtas, for the quality of the works presented and for the ability to map the creativity and the permanent challenge in seeking to reinvent new forms of cinematographic language. The works selected in this competition allow, naturally, to dismantle conventions and question current paradigms.

The 2022 edition brings a selection of enormous quality, where we can find authors who have already won this competition, like Morgan Quaintance (winner in the 2020 and 2021 editions) and Deborah Stratman (winner in 2003 and 2014), or who are regular presences at Curtas, like Ben Russel (exhibited at Solar, with Ben Rivers in 2015), Siegfried A. Fruhauf, Laida Lertxundi, Pedro Maia and Jennifer Reeves.
