FILMar

Established in 2020, with funding from the EEA Grants Portugal’s Culture Programme, and operated by the Portuguese Cinematheque, the FILMAR project has the goal of restoring moving images in a variety of analog formats, which are currently inactive in the vaults of the Portuguese Cinematheque, as well as making them available to the public. In addition to increasing accessibility to film cultural heritage as a way of contributing to a better understanding of Portuguese history, traditions, and identity, the project also aims to encourage the use of digital film archive by numerous local entities.

The screening that was put together for this year’s Curtas compiles a group of movies rendered historically invisible due to their production constraints and intends to highlight the sea-related historical cultures in the coastal area near Vila do Conde. This session takes place within the scope of the FILMar project, operated by the Cinemateca Portuguesa-Museu do Cinema, with the support of the EEAGrants program.
