Solar celebrates 20 years with special programming at Curtas Vila do Conde
Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery is celebrating two decades of activity this year and, throughout 2025, has been marking the date with various initiatives, including Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival.
Opened in March 2005, Solar quickly became an essential venue for the relationship between cinema and visual arts in Portugal, maintaining a strong connection with Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival.
Since its inception, the gallery has been one of the festival's venues, hosting exhibitions that dialogue with the film program and opening its doors to parallel events. Naturally, Curtas is now joining in the celebration of Solar's 20th anniversary with two special moments during this year's edition.
From the start of the festival, an exhibition at the Municipal Theater of Vila do Conde will occupy floors 1 and -1 with a selection of posters that have marked the gallery's history over the past two decades. The exhibition will be on display throughout the event, offering a visual journey through Solar's graphic and artistic identity.
In addition, on Tuesday, July 15, at 6:00 p.m., a conversation will take place in the gallery's bookstore, with the presence of artists who were fundamental in building Solar's exhibition path. Among the confirmed guests are João Tabarra, Tatiana Macedo, and Christoph Girardet—the latter responsible, together with Matthias Müller, for the gallery's inaugural exhibition in 2005.
With these initiatives, Solar reaffirms its role as a reference point at the intersection of cinema and the visual arts, and Curtas Vila do Conde pays tribute to it, celebrating a shared history of artistic complicity and innovation.
