Dedicated exclusively to music videos by Portuguese bands or artists, or directed by Portuguese filmmakers, the programme has become an essential platform for experimentation and for expressing the contemporary musical and visual identity of Portugal. Over the years, Curtas has recognized works by renowned creators such as João Nicolau, Laetitia Morais, André Tentugal, João Pombeiro, and Luís Sobreiro, who have helped elevate the Portuguese music video to a genuine art form.

The 2025 edition presents a selection that reflects the sonic and visual diversity of today’s music scene. Among the videos in competition are “Somersault” by Beautify Junkyards, directed by Dylan Hayes; “O Morto” by Benny Broker & Kaiza, directed by Sebastião Santana; “Cerca” by Bordeira, directed by Francisco Valle; and “Redlaine” by David Bruno, directed by Francisco Lobo.

Also featured are “A Cantiga É” by Linda Martini, directed by Frederico Rompante and Diogo Mendes; “Viva La Muerte!” by Mão Morta, directed by Joana Domingues; “Good Morning” by Memória de Peixe, directed by Miguel Nicolau; and “Random Information” by Minta & The Brook Trout, directed by Miguel Bonneville.

The lineup is completed by “Towards the Sun”, a collaboration between Moullinex and GPU Panic, directed by Ruben Do Valle; “Já Sabia” by Rodrigo Leão, directed by João Eleutério; and “Pictures of You” by Wolf Manhattan, directed by Vasco Mendes.

The Music Video Competition at Curtas Vila do Conde continues to stand as a meeting point between sound and image — a space where the music video transcends its promotional roots to become a true artistic territory of experimentation, emotion, and visual identity.
