The event will take place in the gardens of the Centro de Memória de Vila do Conde, transforming the space into a pet-friendly cinema dedicated to celebrating the unique relationship between humans and dogs.

The screening brings together a selection of films that, through animation, comedy, and classic cinema, highlight the special role dogs play in our lives. Designed for audiences of all ages, the programme includes works from different periods and styles, offering an intergenerational cinematic experience in a relaxed outdoor setting.

Among the selected titles are I Want a Dog by Sheldon Cohen, Guide Dog by Bill Plympton, and A Dog’s Life, the classic film written, directed by, and starring Charlie Chaplin. In many of these stories, dogs take centre stage, leading narratives shaped by humour, adventure, tenderness, and friendship.

More than just a film screening, Pet Curtas aims to create a social gathering for families, promote appreciation for companion animals, and reinforce the festival’s community-oriented and inclusive spirit. By allowing audiences to share the experience with their own pets, the initiative offers a different way of enjoying cinema in an informal and accessible environment.

The gardens of the Centro de Memória will thus become a meeting place for people and animals alike, celebrating the values of loyalty, companionship, and friendship that define the bond between dogs and humans. The festival invites audiences to gather the whole family — including its four-legged members — and enjoy a night of cinema under the stars dedicated to humankind’s best friends.
