Curtas' films at the Oscars® shortlists
The films Beautiful Men, Maybe Elephants, Percebes, Beurk! (Yuck!), Wander To Wonder, The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent, and La Gran Obra (The Masterpiece) are among the 15 finalists for nominations in the Best Short Film category at the Oscars®. Some of them can still be seen at The Short Film Day sessions until the end of December.
Following their premieres at the 32nd Curtas Vila do Conde, the short films Beautiful Men by Nicolas Keppens, Maybe Elephants by Torill Kove, Percebes by Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves, Beurk! (Yuck!) by Loïc Espuche, Wander To Wonder by Nina Gantz, The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent by Nebojša Slijepčević, and La Gran Obra (The Masterpiece) by Alex Lora have successfully advanced to the Oscar® finalist stage.
The animated shorts by Keppens, Kove, Ramires, Gonçalves, Espuche, and Gantz are included in the cohort of 15 films that will progress in the Animated Short Film category for the 97th Academy Awards. In contrast, Slijepčević and Lora's works are shortlisted in the Live Action Short Film category. Notably, Slijepčević's film garnered the Best Short Film Award at the 37th European Film Awards held in Lucerne.
The next phase in the selection process will result in the announcement of the five nominees on the afternoon of Friday, January 17th, 2025.
Portugal stands poised once again to contend for an Oscar® in the animated category, following the success of Ice Merchants by João Gonzalez in 2023.
Film enthusiasts should seize the opportunity to view Percebes, Maybe Elephants, Beurk! (Yuck!), and The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent during the screenings featured in this edition of The Short Film Day, which will take place throughout December on Portugal.
