From the 2025 festival onwards, the winners of the International Competition Grand Prix and the Portuguese Competition Best Film will have the opportunity to be considered for the Best Animated Short Film or Best Fiction Short Film categories of the Oscars®, without the usual requirement of a cinema screening, as long as the film complies with the Academy's rules.

The final selection of nominees will be made by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. For more information on the Oscar® nominations, visit the official website of the American Film Academy.

The 33rd edition of Curtas Vila do Conde is now open for film competition entries. The first deadline for film submissions is December 31st, 2024. The second deadline is February 28th 2025, with the possibility of new entries closing on April 30th 2025.
