Augusto Cabrita was an attentive photographer, meticulous cinematographer, thorough documentarian and, in everything, and always from Barreiro, a signature in terms of the relationship between light, industrialization, and landscapes. At the center of his images are people, their practices, and a certain melancholy over the passage of time. On television, in which he was a pioneer, he invented a way of visually narrating the country. In film, the cinematographer that would become a leading figure in a cinema that searched for an identity closer to what was a country craving for change, he was also the backstage portraitist, creating, in the details that would be left out of the final shot, the image of a cinema full of layers, secrets and things left unsaid.
This exhibit, designed for Curtas, brings together never-before-seen work by the photographer, in a kind, complicit, and close collaboration with his family, in addition to material kept at the Portuguese Cinematheque – Film Museum, and a group of films and TV news reports made for RTP.
